ran across this quote from Kierkegaard in Resner's book.. What nonsense it is therefore that instead of following Christ or the Apostles and suffering as they suffered, one should become a professor- of what? Why, of the fact that Christ was crucifed and the Apostles scourged..one would be tempted to laugh involuntarily if in that passage where it said that God appointed some to be prophets, others to be apostles, others to be pastors- one would be tempted to laugh involuntarily if it were added, some to be professors of theology. (in Resner, 150; from Walter Lowries (1970, 228-30). |
